Pelham Bit – Hard Rubber Mouthpiece
\nThe Pelham bit provides the benefits of a double bridle — snaffle action and curb action — without needing two separate bits. This version features a stainless steel body with a hard rubber straight mouthpiece for a gentler feel on sensitive mouths.
\n\nKey Features
\n- \n
- Stainless steel with hard rubber mouthpiece \n
- Curb chain included \n
- Straight mouthpiece — distributes pressure evenly across the tongue \n
- Less pressure on the bars of the mouth \n
- Multiple rein options for varying degrees of control \n
Rein Options
\n- \n
- \nTwo reins — one snaffle rein and one curb rein for independent control of each action \n
- \nRein connectors — attach to both the snaffle and curb rings, allowing a single rein to operate both actions \n
- \nSingle rein — attach to either the snaffle ring or curb ring depending on the level of control required \n
Best Suited For
\nHorses that are sensitive in the bars of their mouths. The rubber mouthpiece provides a softer feel than metal, while the Pelham action gives the rider effective control. A curb chain must be used for the bit to function correctly. Popular in show jumping, dressage, hunting, and general pleasure riding for horses that need more than a snaffle but where a double bridle is impractical.
\n\nFitting the Curb Chain
\nThe curb chain should lie flat in the chin groove and be adjusted so it engages when the cheek pieces are at roughly a 45-degree angle. Too tight and the bit becomes severe; too loose and the curb action is lost.
