Leather Care
Leather Care Products to Protect Your Tack Investment
Quality leather tack is expensive — and it deserves proper care. Regular cleaning and conditioning keeps leather supple, prevents cracking, and extends the life of your saddle, bridle, and other gear by years. Solo Saddlers stocks tried-and-tested leather care products that South African equestrians have relied on for decades.
Saddle Soap and Leather Cleaners
Cleaning comes first. Saddle soap removes dirt, sweat, and grease without stripping the leather's natural oils. We carry traditional glycerine saddle soap in tins and bars, as well as liquid cleaners and spray-on options for quick clean-ups between thorough sessions. Clean your tack after every ride if possible — at minimum once a week for gear in regular use.
Leather Oils and Conditioners
After cleaning, conditioning restores moisture and flexibility. Our range includes neatsfoot oil, leather balm, beeswax-based conditioners, and specialist products designed specifically for saddlery. South Africa's climate — hot sun and dry air in many regions — is particularly tough on leather, making regular conditioning essential rather than optional.
Leather Balms and Protection
For an extra layer of protection, leather balms create a barrier against moisture and UV damage. They're particularly useful for show tack that needs to look its best, and for tack stored in less-than-ideal conditions. A good balm can revive older leather that's starting to look dry and tired.
Cleaning Kits and Accessories
We stock sponges, cloths, and complete cleaning kits that make tack care easy to get into as a habit. A dedicated tack cleaning kit in your tack room — always ready to go — means you're far more likely to actually use it regularly.
Protect Everything You Own
Leather care isn't just for saddles. Your bridle, girth, and leather halters all benefit from the same treatment. Solo Saddlers has been caring for South African tack rooms for over 35 years — we know what keeps leather in working condition year after year.
