Bridles & Reins
Bridles and Reins — Your Complete Headgear Collection
This combined collection brings together everything that goes on your horse's head — from complete bridle sets with reins included, to individual bridles and reins sold separately. With over 115 products, Solo Saddlers gives you the flexibility to buy a ready-to-ride set or mix and match components to get exactly the combination your horse needs.
Complete Bridle Sets
If you're setting up a new horse or replacing an old bridle, a complete set is the most cost-effective option. Our sets typically include the headpiece, browband, cheekpieces, noseband, and reins — everything you need to pair with a bit and ride. We offer sets in plain leather, padded leather, and synthetic materials across cob, full, and oversize sizes.
Buying Bridles and Reins Separately
Many experienced riders prefer to buy their bridle and reins as separate items. This lets you pair a padded anatomic bridle with rubber grip reins for jumping, or match a classic leather bridle with plaited reins for showing. It also means you can replace worn reins without buying a whole new bridle — and vice versa.
Finding the Right Combination
Your ideal combination depends on your discipline, your horse, and your personal preference. Here's a practical starting point:
Showjumping: A simple, lightweight bridle (often with a removable flash noseband) paired with rubber grip reins. You want security in the hand and nothing that distracts the horse.
Dressage: A padded, anatomically shaped bridle with a crank or flash noseband, paired with plain leather reins for maximum feel and refinement.
Endurance and trail: A biothane or synthetic bridle that handles sweat and water, paired with beta or biothane reins. Easy to clean, virtually indestructible.
Everyday schooling: A good-quality leather bridle with rubber grip or web reins. Practical, affordable, and suitable for all schooling work.
Fit Matters
A bridle should sit comfortably without pinching the ears, pressing on the eyes, or pulling on the mouth when the reins are relaxed. The noseband should allow two fingers' width beneath it. Cheekpieces should be adjusted so the bit creates one to two wrinkles at the corner of the mouth (for a snaffle). If you're between sizes, our staff can advise — we've fitted thousands of horses over 35 years.
