Jumping Saddles
Jumping Saddles for South African Riders
A jumping saddle is built for the forward seat. Flatter through the twist, with very forward-cut flaps and pronounced knee and thigh blocks, it supports the shorter stirrup length and balanced-forward position that jumping demands. Whether you're schooling small fences at home or competing in showjumping or cross-country, a dedicated jumping saddle gives you security and freedom of movement that a GP can't match.
What defines a jumping saddle
Forward-cut flaps that accommodate a shorter stirrup, a flatter seat that lets you move with the horse over the fence, pronounced knee and thigh blocks for grip on landing, and short girth straps (standard billets) that sit under the flap. The panels are typically shaped to allow the horse's shoulder to move freely during the take-off.
Finding the right fit
Jumping puts real load on the saddle-horse interface. Tree width, panel contact and clearance over the withers all matter. Pair with a shaped saddle pad or numnah, a short girth for standard billets, and appropriate stirrups and leathers. If the saddle shifts or pinches at speed, get it fitted before your next session.
