Fly Repellents
Fly Repellents That Keep Insects at Bay
When physical barriers aren't enough, chemical fly repellents step in. Solo Saddlers stocks a range of fly sprays, roll-ons, pour-ons, and natural repellents formulated to handle the persistent insects that plague South African horses through the warmer months. Find what works for your horse and your environment right here.
Fly Sprays
Fly spray is the most common form of insect control for good reason — it's quick to apply and covers large areas. Our range includes both chemical and natural formulations. Some offer residual protection lasting hours or even days, while others are best applied before each ride. Spray-on products work well for body coverage but may need topping up around the face and legs where horses sweat most.
Roll-Ons and Gels
For targeted application around the face, ears, and other sensitive areas, roll-ons and gels are far more practical than sprays. They allow precise application without startling spray-shy horses, and many offer longer-lasting protection because they stay where you put them rather than evaporating.
Pour-Ons and Concentrates
Pour-on products provide longer-lasting protection and are ideal for horses that live out. Applied along the topline, they spread naturally through the coat oils. Concentrates can be diluted for use in wash water or misting systems — a good option for busy yards managing multiple horses.
Natural and Low-Chemical Options
For horse owners who prefer a gentler approach, we carry citronella-based, essential oil, and other natural repellents. While they may need more frequent application, they're a good choice for horses with sensitive skin or those in close contact with foals.
