The Pelham Elliptical Link combines snaffle and curb action in a single mouthpiece, giving riders the precision of a double bridle without the need for two bits. How a Pelham Bit Works
A pelham bit provides the benefits of a double bridle — using snaffle action and curb action — without the need for two bits in the horse's mouth. It is a popular choice for show jumping, hunting, and general schooling where the rider wants the option of additional control without the complexity of running two bits.
A pelham must be used with a curb chain to be effective. This one ships with the curb chain included.
Rein Options
A pelham can be used with several rein configurations:
- Two reins — the rider has both a snaffle rein and a curb rein for independent control of each action.
- Rein connector — a connector attaches to the curb ring and the snaffle ring, allowing the use of a single rein.
- Single rein — used without connectors at either the snaffle or curb ring, depending on the action and amount of control required.
About the Elliptical Link
The oval elliptical link is a variant of the French link, with a rounded lozenge instead of a flat spatula joining the two halves of the bit. The benefits are largely the same: reduced nutcracker action, more even pressure over the bars, and independent control over the two sides of the mouth.
