How to Fit a Neck Strap Correctly

• Sit the strap roughly a hand's width in front of the wither — that puts the grab point close to your hand without crowding the rein
• Adjust so you can fit two flat fingers between the strap and the horse's neck — snug but not tight
• Check it sits behind the throat-latch of the bridle, not over it
• Re-check the fit after a long ride; sweating and warming up changes the snug
• Practise the grab at a halt and walk first, so reaching for it under pressure is muscle memory
