How the Slotted Cheeks Work

The slotted cheeks give you the option to increase or decrease the amount of leverage:

\n

Low Port Mouthpiece

The ported mouth curves upwards to allow more room for the tongue, directing pressure onto the bars of the mouth. This makes the curb action more effective. The curb chain prevents the bit from rotating too far in the horse's mouth, applying pressure to the bars, chin, and poll when the reins are engaged.

Suitable For

Horses that pull heavily or need more control than a snaffle, but where a full pelham with double reins is impractical. Popular in show jumping, eventing, hunting, and general riding. The low port suits horses that dislike tongue pressure — the upward curve gives the tongue somewhere to sit.
