Donkey Bit
A bit specially designed for donkeys, accounting for the differences in facial and jaw structure between donkeys and horses. Comfortable, humane, and suited to both riding and driving applications.
How It Works
The mouthpiece is straight but incorporates a slight curve, which achieves two things: it eliminates the nutcracker action associated with jointed bits, and it creates more space for the tongue — which sits differently in a donkey's mouth compared to a horse. The smaller rings on the sides reduce pressure on the cheeks and teeth, fitting the narrower jaw of a donkey more accurately than a standard horse bit would.
Why Donkeys Need Their Own Bit
Donkeys have shorter, narrower muzzles than horses, a shallower palate, and a different tongue resting position. A horse bit often sits poorly, puts too much pressure on the tongue or bars, and makes the donkey resist the contact. Using the right bit is one of the quickest ways to improve responsiveness and reduce mouth-related behaviour problems.

Suitable For
Donkeys used for riding, trekking, driving, or in-hand work. If you've been using a standard horse bit and your donkey shows resistance, head-tossing, or reluctance to accept the bit, switching to a correctly fitted donkey bit is often the first step to improving communication and comfort.
