Why the Zebra Pattern Works

Research on tabanid horseflies has shown they land less often on striped surfaces than on solid colours, which helps cut down bites, itching and allergic reactions. The sheet itself adds a physical barrier against biting insects and shades the coat against bleaching from the harsh South African sun.

On African Horse Sickness: AHS is spread by Culicoides midges, which at 1-4mm are small enough to pass through breathable mesh. A fly sheet reduces insect contact, but it does not prevent AHS. Annual vaccination is a legal requirement in South Africa, and stabling from late afternoon through to morning remains the practical control during the season.

Care & Use
