How It Works

The multi-link mouthpiece bends in every direction, so the horse can't set its jaw against a single fixed surface. Every time the horse tries to lean or grab the bit, the mouthpiece moves — removing the solid point of contact. This encourages the horse to soften and respond to a lighter rein aid.

Best Suited For

Show jumping, eventing, cross country and hunting. The Waterford is particularly effective for strong horses that tend to lean on the bit. The multi-link design makes it nearly impossible for the horse to grab hold, keeping the rider in control.

Important Note

The Waterford can be a severe bit if used incorrectly. It is best suited to experienced riders with steady, sympathetic hands — not a first choice for riders who are still developing a consistent contact.
