Gag Snaffle Elliptical Link & Runners 135mm
A strong gag snaffle with an elliptical link mouthpiece and removable rope runners, sized at 135mm. Designed for horses that pull or need retraining, this bit applies simultaneous pressure to the lips and poll — a combination that encourages head raising and discourages leaning into the contact.
How It Works
The runners act as cheek pieces — they thread through the bit rings and the rein attaches to a ring at the end of the runner. When the rein is pulled, the bit slides upward through the rings, creating upward pressure on the lips while simultaneously loading the poll. This combination tends to cause horses to lift their head, which is useful for horses that lean heavily on the bit or drop their head and pull.
The elliptical link mouthpiece is a variant of the French link — a rounded lozenge joins the two halves of the bit, reducing nutcracker action and distributing pressure more evenly across the bars. It allows independent control on each side of the mouth and encourages the horse to remain lighter in the contact.

Rein Configurations
This bit can be used with a single rein attached to the runner ring, or with two reins — one on the large bit ring and a second on the runner ring for more nuanced control.
Suitable For
Strong, pulling horses. Commonly used in polo, eventing (cross-country), show jumping, and hacking with horses that become strong when excited. Not suitable as an everyday bit — best used by experienced riders who understand the severity of gag action.
