Dexter Ring Bit Rubber
A rubber Dexter ring bit — a combination of a chifney (anti-rearing) bit and a jointed snaffle. Commonly used on racehorses and thoroughbreds where extra steering control and stopping power are needed, particularly in high-energy or excitable horses.
How It Works
The snaffle portion sits normally in the horse's mouth, functioning as a standard jointed bit. The large ring — the defining feature of the Dexter bit — passes around the horse's lower jaw. When the rider applies rein pressure, the ring provides downward pressure on the jaw while the snaffle acts on the bars and corners of the mouth. This dual action gives the rider significantly more steering influence and stopping control than a standard snaffle alone.

Suitable For
Racehorses, thoroughbreds, and highly strung horses that need more control than a standard snaffle provides. Also used during leading and handling of difficult horses, where the chifney ring provides additional management control. Experienced hands recommended — this is not an everyday training bit.
Fitting Notes
The lower ring must sit correctly around the jaw without pinching. Check that the snaffle mouthpiece fits snugly without pulling through the rings. Always introduce a new bit quietly in familiar surroundings before using in race conditions.
