Peacock Ring Leathers are the small leather tabs that join the rubber safety ring to the stirrup iron on a pair of peacock safety stirrups. If a leather has perished or snapped, these replacement pieces get your safety stirrups back in use without having to buy a whole new pair.

What these are for

Peacock safety stirrups use a thick rubber ring on the outer side of the iron in place of a solid branch, so the foot is released in a fall. The ring hooks over the stud at the top of the iron, and its lower end is held at the tread by a small leather tab that folds over it. That tab is the part sold here. Leather dries out, stretches and tears with use, so it is worth keeping a spare pair to hand.

Fitting and checks

Hook the rubber ring over the stud at the top of the iron, then fold the leather tab over the lower end of the ring at the tread so the ring sits on the outer side. Check that both tabs are secure before every ride, and replace them at the first sign of cracking or stretching — a perished tab can let the ring drop away.
