Peacock Safety Stirrups
Peacock safety stirrups are designed to free the rider's foot in the event of a fall, making them a sensible choice for young and novice riders. A thick rubber ring sits on the outer side of the iron in place of a solid branch. It hooks over the stud at the top of the iron, and its lower end is held at the tread by a small leather tab. If undue pressure is applied during a fall, the ring releases the foot, helping to prevent the rider being dragged.
Key Features
- Safety stirrup iron with quick-release rubber peacock ring
- Rubber ring can be easily replaced when worn
- Size: 4 1/2" - well suited to children and smaller riders
- Frees the foot in a fall to reduce the risk of being dragged
Why Choose a Peacock Stirrup
Peacock irons remain a popular safety choice for children and beginners learning to ride. The open-sided design and rubber ring give peace of mind in the saddle without compromising on a secure foot position. As the rubber rings perish over time, keep a spare set on hand and replace them at the first sign of wear. The leather tab that holds each ring at the tread is a separate part that also perishes, so check both before every ride.
Spares and Replacements
Both wearing parts are stocked in our stirrups & leathers range and sold separately: fit fresh peacock rubber rings when the rubber loses its elasticity, and new peacock ring leathers if a tab has cracked or stretched. A new rubber ring on a failed leather tab will not hold.
For the rest of your young rider's kit, find a comfortable, secure saddle and a correctly fitted riding helmet.
