Gel Cheek Protector (Bit Guard)

A rubber bit guard made from soft, stretchy gel that fits between the ring of the bit and the horse's cheeks. Prevents pinching and rubbing for a more comfortable contact.

When to Use Cheek Protectors

Cheek protectors are useful when a horse shows signs of bit-related discomfort — pinching at the corners of the mouth, reluctance to accept the bit, head-tossing, or when the bit runs slightly wide. They can make a meaningful difference in comfort without the expense of a new bit.

Fitting

Slot each side of the guard through the bit ring so it sits flush against the corner of the mouth. The gel should lie flat between the ring and the horse's lip. Check regularly that the guard hasn't slipped or twisted during riding.

Compatibility

Works with loose ring and eggbutt snaffles, as well as most fulmer and dee ring bits. Not suitable for bits without a ring to slot over (e.g. Pelhams with fixed cheeks).
