A Grackle noseband (also called a Mexican or figure-8 noseband) is designed to prevent a horse from crossing his jaw or opening his mouth to evade the bit. When to Use a Grackle Noseband

Grackle nosebands are commonly used in fast-paced equestrian disciplines such as show jumping, cross country and racing, where a horse under pressure may try to evade the bit. When fitted correctly, the figure-8 design leaves the nostrils clear so the horse can breathe freely at speed.

Why Biothane Over Leather

Biothane offers the feel of leather with none of the upkeep. It won't rot, stretch or crack, and a quick wipe with a damp cloth keeps it clean. That makes it ideal for riders who train in wet or muddy conditions, or who simply want tack that lasts without hours of conditioning.

Fitting

Fit the upper strap just below the cheekbone and the lower strap above the bit, crossing on the nasal bone. You should be able to fit two fingers under each strap — snug enough to work, loose enough to keep the nostrils clear.
