F10 Germicidal Shampoo

F10 Germicidal Treatment Shampoo is a dermatological preparation effective against bacteria and fungi as a skin treatment and to prevent re-infestation. It is an effective skin and coat treatment and controls infection.

What F10 Germicidal Shampoo treats

F10 Germicidal Treatment Shampoo is registered in South Africa as a stock remedy under Act 36/1947, Reg. No. G3107, held by Health and Hygiene (Pty) Ltd. It is indicated for skin conditions of bacterial, fungal or viral origin in all species of all ages.

• Bacterial skin conditions, including dermatitis and pyoderma associated with Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas organisms
• Fungal infections, including dermatophytosis (ringworm) associated with Microsporum canis
• Yeast infections (malasseziasis)
• Viral contamination of the skin and coat

What it does not do

This is the standard F10 Germicidal Treatment Shampoo and it contains no insecticide, so it will not kill mites, lice or other external parasites. Where parasite control is needed, ask your vet about a suitable antiparasitic product and whether F10 is appropriate to use alongside it. The insecticide-containing options in the F10 range are the Germ Wound Spray + Insecticide and the Germicidal Ointment + Insecticide, both of which are spot treatments rather than whole-body washes.

Composition and handling

• Quaternary ammonium and biguanide compounds (0,4%)
• Non-toxic ampholytic surfactants and sequestrants
• Clear straw coloured liquid with a herbal odour
• For external animal use only
• Store below 30°C in dry conditions
• Supplied in 250ml, 1 litre and 5 litre bottles. Choose your size above.

How to use

Use only as directed on the bottle, or as advised by your vet. The registered directions are:

1. This is a low-foaming product, so do not expect a heavy lather. Mixing it with a little lukewarm water first makes it easier to apply.
2. Wet the coat thoroughly. A preliminary application may be needed to break through the natural oils in the coat: work it in, rinse off and re-apply immediately.
3. Apply to all affected areas and rub in well.
4. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse off thoroughly with clean water.
5. Repeat up to three times, applied every other day, or as directed by your vet, until the skin condition has cleared.

Do not mix with soaps or other chemicals, and avoid contact with the eyes. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

For contagious skin infections the manufacturer's protocol also calls for F10 Germicidal Barrier Ointment to be applied to affected lesions once daily. Solo Saddlers stocks the F10 Germicidal Ointment.
