Proudly South African Endurance Saddle
The Solo Saddlers Overlander Wide is built for riders who spend long hours in the saddle — whether you're on an endurance ride, working the farm, or heading out on a multi-day trail. At just 3.5 kg, it's one of the lightest saddles in our range, purpose-designed for comfort and durability in tough South African conditions.
Built for Wide-Withered Horses
The Overlander Wide features a Solo McLellan-style fibreglass tree, specifically shaped to fit horses with a wider wither. The felt panels provide cushioning and even pressure distribution across your horse's back, reducing the risk of pressure points and sore spots on longer rides.
Key Features
- Padded suede leather seat — comfortable for long hours in the saddle
- Nylon stirrup leathers — fitted in two stirrup slots to suit taller or shorter riders, and accommodate both forward and further-back sitting positions
- Replaceable girth straps — secure from front and back for a snug, even contact fit
- Felt panels — added cushioning for your horse's back
- Chafeless padded girth included
- Ample Dee rings — for attaching a breastplate, saddle bags, and a crupper
- Weighs only 3.5 kg — one of the lightest endurance saddles available
- Available in Black or Brown
Low Maintenance for SA Conditions
This saddle needs no oiling — simply wipe clean with a damp cloth. Perfect for riders who want to spend more time in the saddle and less time on upkeep. Pair it with a quality saddle pad and girth for the best fit, and use a leather care product on the suede seat as needed.
Ideal For
Endurance riding, trail riding, security patrols, veewagter duties, mountain work, and general farm work where a lightweight, wide-fit saddle is essential.
How to Tell if Your Horse Needs a Wide Fit
- The standard saddle perches forward over the wither rather than sitting level
- You can see daylight under the saddle pad behind the shoulder when girthed
- Your horse is a wider native breed — Boerperd, Nooitgedacht, draught crosses, or a heavier cob/warmblood type
- Sweat marks dry unevenly across the back, with a dry "bridge" mid-back where pressure is missing
- You ride a horse who has muscled up significantly through training
If two or more of these apply, a wide-fit endurance saddle like the Overlander Wide will sit closer to the back and distribute weight more evenly than a standard tree.
